October 9th is ✴︎PANS ✳︎PANDAS Awareness Day. These neurological disorders affects between 1 in 200 children. It is NOT a rare disorder, it is rarely diagnosed. It affects the basal ganglia region of the brain, otherwise known as the midbrain. This region is primarily used for motor learning, executive function, behaviors and emotions. Both disorders are misdirected immune responses. My daughter has both PANS and PANDAS. It took years for us to figure it out, because so many providers would say she's just going to be that odd Aunt everyone talks about, or she just barely misses the the classification for autism. In the end momma, me figured it out. We found a practitioner to help her only through persistence and perseverance. It should not be that hard for families to find help for their loved ones. Additionally treatment should be covered by insurance. Majority of her treatment has been paid out of pocket because insurance does not cover functional medicine which gets to the root cause of illness.
