Cinco de Mayo

5/5/2023

Our family loves to eat tacos and most foods influenced by Mexican traditions. So having Mexican food tonight makes perfect sense. If fixing food for Cinco de Mayo isn't your thing tonight. There are several authentico restaurants in the Triad area. I'll list a few in addition to my favorite influenced restaurants.

Why celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo is a huge celebration of Mexico's heritage, and it commemorates Mexico's defeat over the French army in the battle of Puebla in 1862. Although Mexican independence came on September 16, many mistakenly think Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican independence.

Here are a few of my favorite Mexican-inspired dishes:
  • Nachos from Danielle Walker - if you have a corn allergy I highly recommend Seite brand.  You can purchase them in most stores. We usually get a big bag from Costco
  • Burrito Bowl from Creative in My Kitchen for those who need low lectin meal.
  • Guacamole from Fantabulosity - have I told you my daughter makes the best guacamole. It's so good that it's the most requested item for her to bring to parties. That says a lot about a teenager.
  • Grain Free Tortillas from Hungry by Nature, these are the bomb if you have time to make them. Otherwise, we usually grab the Seite brand.
  • Margarita from Danielle Walker. It's not a celebration without a margarita. I love her authentic version but also the vanilla pineapple one.
But if you are looking to eat out tonight. I highly suggest these restaurants:
El Camino Real Mexican Grill in Greensboro and Winston Salem
Kiosko Mexican Grill in Greensboro on Spring St.
Crafted the Art of Taco in Greensboro and Mebane for a Mexican-influenced meal
If you are looking for pallete's
Luchas Ice Cream and Churros on Market St in Greensboro
Le Mejor Super Michoacana on Gate City Blvd in Greensboro

Whatever you do today to celebrate. Be safe and enjoy yourself.
